Jerry Dee Colling has copies of Baptimal certificates pg. 14 4William and John were of draft age for the Prussian Army and copies of correspondence with the Army showed that Theodor, their father, was not trying to get his sons out of the draft when he brought them to America in 1861. They had to renounce their Prussian citizenship when they left for America and were told they couldn't return to become Prussian citizens again. Ironically, William and his brother George joined the Union Army in the Civil War after arriving in America. 20

During the late war, he and his brother George enlisted in Company A, fifty-second Illinois Infantry, and participated in the battles of Resaca, Atlanta, and a number of skirmishes. He was in General Sherman's army, firty-second Illinois, Company A, First Brigade, of the Sixteenth Army Corps. In the fall of 1864 the Sixteenth was consolidated with the Fifteenth Army Corps, after which it was called the Fifteenth. Mr. Colling and his brother were discharged on July 12, 1865.

1985 Colling Family reunion pg. 6 farmed in the Chicago area and eventually died in Indianola, Nebraska. One of five brother who immigrated (in Picture taken in 1890's) to America with Parents, Many descendants of Nikolaus, Charles and William are still living in Red Willow and Furnas Counties, as well as other parts of Nebraska. 20
1985 More than 300 Colling family members gathered over the Memorial Day weekend in the Chief Motel assembly room to celebrate the 130th anniversary of their ancestors coming to America. Attending were many descendants of five German Colling brothers (Theodor's sons) from the 1850's and 1860's coming from 17 states.
Sunday the group had a dinner in St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Indianola, Nebraska. They were served by the Altar Society. Leslie Colling, Austin, Minnesota, presided and awarded the prize for the oldest descendant to Mrs. Matilda Colling Quigley of Indianola and the youngest to Jason Bryant of McCook. Dr. Jerry Colling, Carlsbad, California, gave a slide presentation of pictures of the Colling ancestors, the ancestral home in Dasburg (Bitburg County) Germany, and the present day Collings still living in Germany. 3, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24
