William and Nicholas were neighbors and their names are on 2 pieces of property adjacent to each other on Winfield Rd. Sec. 26 Winfield Township-Warrenville Illinois; Winfield Township, Property. 27 It was later developed in 1960 into Blackwell Recreational Forest Preserve. 10 Winfield Township was settled in 1832 by Erastus and Jude P. Gary. Turner, Warrenville & Winfield stations are all landmarks among the old settlers of this township. It was believed at an early day that Warrenville was destined to become one of the largest inland cities in the State, but owing to location of railroads, attention of settlers was attracted to other points. Turner is perhaps the greatest railroad center in the northwest. The township has fine agricultural resources, is watered and timbered, and in all respects ranks among the first in the State. In 1834, quite a number of actual settlers were added to the settlement, from which date township was rapidly settled. 1870 Census records he was listed as having a Warrenville P.O., William and Nicholas were neighbors. Approximate distance of communities from property of Nicholas Colling (horse and buggy days): Winfield - 21/2 miles, Turner Junction (later called West Chicago) - 4 miles, Naperville - 4 miles, Warrenville - 1 1/2 miles (not a progressive community, due to Warren family not selling land for railroad, which then went to Winfield - until the railroad came to Naperville - by then Winfield lost much business.) 27
