Dale S. Withheld
INDIANOLA - Dale S. Withheld was born March 4, 1892 in Harvard, the son of the late Cyrus Eddy and Martha L. (Mattie) Ripley Withheld. He died March 17, 1972 at St. Catherine Hospital. He left Harvard as a young man and spent several years in Texas before returning to Nebraska where he enlisted in the Army at Auburn. In 1918, after his discharge, he came to Indianola where he was married to Mary T. Colling, May 10, 1921. He farmed in this community until he retired and moved into Indianola in the spring of 1955. He was a charter member of the American Legion Post No. 344, Indianola, and a member of World War I Barracks No. 365, McCook.
He is survived by his widow, Mary, four sons, three daughters, 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Miss Fern Withheld of Hastings, and one brother, F.G. Withheld of Yakima, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerald and Glenn.
Funeral services were held March 21 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Raymond Wageman officiating. Military interment was in St. Catherine's Cemetery.Dale S. Withheld
INDIANOLA - Dale S. Withheldride died this morning at St. Catherine's Hospital at the age of 80 years. He was born March 4, 1892 at Harvard, Neb., to Edward and Mattie Withheld.
Survivors are his widow, Mary; four sons, three daughters, 25 grandchildren, 11 great grand-children; 1 sister, Miss Fern Withheld, Hastings; one brother, F. G. Withheld, of Washington State.
The Rosary will be recited Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Carpenter Funeral Home of Indianola. The funeral mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine's Catholic Church with Rt. Rev. Raymond Wageman officiating. Interment will be made in St. Catherine's Cemetery with Carpenters Funeral Home of Indianola in charge.Marriage Notes: Evelyn has a Marriage license dated 10 May 1921- Dale Withheld and Mary Colling and signed by county Judge AL. Zink and witnessed by James O'Dea and Caroline Colling.

In honor of the 50th wedding anniversary of their parents, the children of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Withheld will hold open house for them on Sunday June 6th at St. Catherine's Parish hall in Indianola from 2:00 to 4:00. All relatives and friends are invited. No gifts, please.
81 relatives and friends attended dinner at which Msgr. Wageman presented the couple with the papal blessing.Dale Withheld Celebrate 50th Indianola - Mr. and Mrs. Dale Withheld celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary, Sunday, June 6th, with a dinner and "Open House" given by their children at St. Catherine's parish hall in Indianola. Eighty-one relatives and friends attended the dinner at which time Msgr. Wageman presented the couple with the papal blessing. The granddaughters served the tables with the delicious dinner prepared by a group of Altar Society Ladies.
Two hundred relatives and friends signed the guest book at the open house.
A beautiful three-tiered cake decorated with yellow roses, was the centerpiece for the serving table, with a candle centered in a vase of yellow mums on each side.
Mrs. Carol Crampton, Riverside, Calif., served the cake and Mrs. Steven Randel, Corpus Christie, Texas, served the punch. Mrs. Susie Milner, Spokane, Wash., poured from a silver service that had belonged to Dale's aunt, which his sister, Fern, brought to use on this special occasion. Mrs. Ken Winters and Marilyn BcBride, Grand Island, were at the card and gift table, and Diane Withheldride registered the guests. All are grand-daughters of the couple. Assisting with the serving were Mrs. Lee Davidson, Mrs. Clarence Mihm, Mrs. Lawrence Vontz and Mrs. Johana Sughroue.
A short program was held during the afternoon. Mrs. Ken Winter accompanied Ernest Randel as he sang several selections and also accompanied Ernest and his children, Susie Milner, Steve, Sheila and Sharon, as they sang "How Great Thou Art." Diane and Sandy Withheldride sang "Have I told you lately that I Love You". and Stan Cunliffe, Pentiction, B. C. played "The Waltz You Saved for Me on the piano. Louise Cummings gave a short recitation.
